Change can blind us, turn us around, make us ecstatic, and be incredibly unpredictable. "Catalyst Cycle" is inspired by my curiosity about the effects of change and my desire to control it. This series follows an autobiographical narrative told in a vibrant and optimistic forest setting that begins from early life, before physical objects had importance, to a current mindset. In my work, a constant trail of growth winds through the space of each piece to connect objects that have significance to my own personal changes. These items, both organic and man-made, each have a connection to moments that have occurred because of the cycles that I often go through in my life. Throughout the meditative process of endlessly cutting and coloring it’s easy to lose myself, even abandon life outside of my work entirely in an effort to escape the change these pieces are about. Because of this behavior I have found that the materials and the reactions I have as I complete the work simulate my desire to both welcome change and resist it at the same time.
